EASTWOOD HEIGHTS PUBLIC SCHOOL P&C ASSOCIATION

The P&C has a formal structure with a constitution and positions such as President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. The Parents and Citizens Association meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 7:30pm.

This provides an additional opportunity for members of the school community to communicate with executive and school staff. Decisions are made on how funds are allocated and the priorities for fund raising. Reports on activities from various sub-committees within the P&C are presented. Other bodies such as the P & C Auxiliary, the Canteen Committee and the band committee are officially sub-committees of the P&C. At Eastwood Heights Public School all parent groups work together.

For the general activities and events (such as discos, barbeques and Fireworks Night) people participate in the manner that suits them. Parents have been involved directly with the school with sporting teams and carnivals, the delivery of learning programs in the classroom, school excursions, the organisation of the school band, the operation of the school’s canteen and the running of the uniform shop.

The P & C has also been highly involved in promoting the community spirit within the school through events such as the Welcome Back BBQ and Trivia nights. Fundraising is an important part of the P&C with the Fireworks Night an example of a major activity held during the year. Past funds raised have been used to:

install a water tap near the Creative Learning Centre (CLC) for classroom use;
replace the roof on the CLC;
purchase plastic trestle tables;
install lights in the storage room under the administration block;
install blinds for classrooms;
provide additional sporting equipment;
purchase yard games for students to use during breaks; and
expand classroom resources such as listening posts, problem solving games, developmental play equipment, home readers, art dryers, shelving, tote trays, atlases and dictionaries.

Did you know? The Eastwood Heights Public School Parents’ and Citizens’ Association was formed on 21 February 1958.

EASTWOOD HEIGHTS PUBLIC SCHOOL BAND

The Eastwood Heights School Band program is run by a parent group as a sub-committee of the P&C. Over the years many students have enjoyed being involved in performance ensembles and have gained recognition in the wider community at a variety of concert opportunities.

The Band program is open to students in years 3 – 6 who are keen to learn a musical instrument, who are capable of working within a team and who show a willingness to commit to the program.

Our band program has expanded to include 3 separate bands: Training, Intermediate and Senior. All three bands have continued to raise the profile of our school by successfully competing in a range of eisteddfods and competitions. Each year students have the opportunity to participate in a band camp where students fine tune their musical skills whilst enjoying a range of other fun activities.

Under the expert direction of the Band Master, students learn the skills required to perform in an ensemble and learn to play a variety of music in a fun atmosphere alongside their peers. This very worthwhile program raises confidence and self-esteem, and also provides the opportunity for students to showcase what they have learnt in a very public forum.

The Band program also relies on parental help. The Band Committee meets each term and its job is to ensure the smooth running of the program. Rosters, instrument distribution and fundraising are just a few of the roles of the committee. This program cannot run without parental commitment. During Term 4 students audition to become part of the band. An information evening for parents and the band AGM is held at the beginning of Term 1 where committee positions are filled and instruments distributed.
